I’m currently helping organize a repeat of last year’s “Copyright Registration Demonstration” on behalf of the Dramatists Legal Defense Fund. Done over Zoom, this year a representative from the U.S. Copyright Office will go through the registration process for a play and, time allowing, a musical. Hopefully, this year’s event will answer that ever-vexing question about the publication of a dramatic work: e.g., what if the work was performed at a reading and submitted to a few theaters—is it published?
